"This firmament in which the stars move like the hands of a perfect clock that no jolt can disturb and boasting absolute exactitude; this firmament taught him all he needed to know about times and distances"
- Jules Verne -
Louis Moinet, Jules Verne and the Moon
"Anything one man can imagine, other men can make real."
- Jules Verne -
Did contemporaries Louis Moinet and eminent science fiction writer, Jules Verne, ever meet? We can't say for sure, but imagining the two
working together has been the inspiration for our watchmakers to create the technically advanced Jules Verne Instrument 1 and Instrument 2.
Both innovators shared a passion for their art with Louis Moinet mastering time and Jules Verne taming science, routinely credited with
creating the very foundation for modern-day space travel with From the Earth to the Moon. Jules Verne's writings played constantly with the
importance of time and space and there is no doubt that Jules Verne’s characters most certainly would have relied on the work of a great
watchmaker like Louis Moinet in order to make their travels. Jean-Michel Verne, journalist and great grandson of Jules Verne, has even gone
so far as to suggest that Phileas Fogg traveled Around the World in 80 Days with a Louis Moinet on his wrist!
From the Earth to the Moon has provided the inspiration for Instrument I and Around the Moon has provided the inspiration for Instrument 2.
Both instruments provide a new way to use a chronograph by fully securing the use of the start and stop mechanisms with a unique, patent
pending lever system. Instrument 2 also makes use of a rattrapante chronograph to further facilitate the timing of multiple events, a must
for any Jules Verne traveler.
Both instruments also have something no other watch brand in the world has: an actual piece of the moon deftly and subtly set inside a Jules
Verne inspired porthole on the side of the case at the 9 o'clock position. This piece of the moon serves as a constant reminder to the
wearer of how far we have come and how far we have yet to go in our travels, bounded only by time and our imaginations. That is the
inspiration we can all garner from the lifelong pursuits of Jules Verne and Louis Moinet.
